Have A Nice Doomsday

Why Millions of Americans are Looking Forward to the End of the World.

By Nicholas Guyatt.

ISBN : 978 0 09 191087 7

About $10 to $15 at Bargain Bookshops (QBD in Brisbane)

THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH!

Journeying into the heartlands of America*s Bible Belt, Nicholas Guyatt goes in search of the truth behind a startling development : that 50 million Americans have come to believe the apocalypse will take place in their lifetimes.

Guyatt starts his trail in Texas where one of today*s most influential Evangelist, Pastor John Hagee has sold more than 600,000 copies of his book, Jerusalem Countdown, in which (as a staunch Jewish sympathiser), Hagee claims *inside* information from Israel, which proves the fact that, *The coming nuclear showdown with Iran, America and Israel is a certainty!*

Hagee is also the president of John Hagee Ministries, which sells sermons, videos, Israel tours and even high speed internet access that filters out the nasty stuff. He made $1.25 million in 2001 and claims that he earns every penny by working a 80 hour week. The list of his activities and commercial empire not ending there, as he controls his own TV and media outlets, NBA sports teams and all manner of stuff.

From this simple beginning, Guyatt winds his path away from Texas to the White house through a string of powerful Evangelical doomsday preachers including Tim LaHaye, who all share a remarkably consistent view of how the Bible*s prophetic promises from Revelation and beyond, will shape tomorrow*s headlines. Not surprisingly, it isn*t long before Guyatt runs into charismatic speakers like Tom DeLay, the former speaker in the House of Representatives; and Gary Bauer, an adviser to Ronald Reagan, and smack dab into G. Bush himself. Ariel Sharon and Benjamin Netanyahu all appear too amongst others, many notable movers and shakers of Israeli politics, which seems (to Guyatt) slightly misplaced in San Antonio, Texas?

But, this is not a conspiracy theory book, far from it : just a book of facts. You will take away from it what you want and leave behind the rest, as Guyatt slowly unveils the means by which the second coming of Christ is about to happen, through the careful scrutiny of the scriptures, and as seem through the eyes of Hagee and millions of his followers. You will come to understand intimately this deep obsession that lies in the heart of the world*s only superpower and why.

Guyatt explores the texts in the Bible that today*s evangelists use to make their claims. He opens to plain view and examination the evangelical conclusions drawn by men like Pastor Hagee, and loooks long and hard at the reasons why they are so sure of what they are saying. Concluding that ALL AGREE that the beginning of the apocalypse, will be marked by the Rapture, when all the true believers will be *raptured* by God. The time when all the faithful Christians will instantly vanish from the Earth, creating political and social chaos.

Guyatt writes :

Although this is where things start to sound far fetched, the idea of a massive disappearance of true believers is based on a verse in a letter from St Paul to the Thessalonians. (You can hear Tim LaHaye reading the verse in question from Thessalonians, and admire a Flash animation of the Rapture, at www.timlahaye.com ). The Rapture is absolutely central to the prophetic scheme of most apocalyptic Christians in America. In a Christian superstore like Mardel*s in Littleton, you can buy a bumper sticker that reads:

IN CASE OF RAPTURE,
THIS VEHICLE WILL BE UNMANNED.

Prophecy believers use chat rooms to debate how they can reconcile public safety with the unknowable timing of the Rapture. Some have suggested that true believers should think twice before becoming surgeons or airplane pilots, because they could easily endanger non Christians by disappearing suddenly when God gathers up the faithful.

Guyatt reveals that John Hagee sincerely believes that he will be Raptured. In fact, some of his books contain a rider in which he anticipates this scenario in which he writes : *For those who have missed the Rapture : you may be confused and terrified by the momentous events you are experiencing. You may be in hiding. Take heed to this book, then lift up your heads ~ your redemption draws near.*

As a lapsed Catholic himself, Guyatt admits to being drawn to what he termed ; *the liberal warnings of evangelicals run amok,* adding that the one thing he couldn*t work out is why apocalyptic Christians, who believe that the world is about to be ruined by the Antichrist, would want to get involved in politics? Guyatt*s point of view is that if God is in charge, what*s the point of electing a Republican Congress or an evangelical President?

His confusion is well founded because what makes today*s apocalyptic Christian so intriguing and perplexing is that historically, prophecy believers have been politically marginal, content to withdraw from the public arena whilst awaiting Christ*s return, (interestingly, also totally conditioned to believing that much suffering and terrible times must proceed the Second Coming). But not so today, when apocalyptic Christians are political activists involved in everything from debates on abortion, homosexuality, to the Bill of Rights and all that is politically mainstream, right up to the white house itself; up front and generally to the right of the situation at hand.

So what has changed and why?

Have a Nice Doomsday will read like pure fantasy to some; part fiction to others and even still; absolute gospel and validation to those who already believe. Whichever way you read it, this book will make you stop and think about your mortal soul should an apocalyptic ending be as close as so many now believe it to be. You will be left to wonder just exactly what it will mean to you in a world gone mad with too many choices.

A small paperback of only 307 pages, you will learn how prophecy scholars are focused on spiritual decline in America before God/the ultimate justice turns it into the kind of paradise that people have long prayed for. Guyatt has done his research well and I learned a fair bit more about the Bible and how the mind of the modern Apocalyptic Christian interprets it.

Reading this book helped me look at things in a completely different light to the way I had before, which is always a good thing because it allows us to build on our own beliefs.

There are time too when this book pushed buttons and boundaries within me, and it is for this reason that I recommend that you give your brain a good stretch and bend, and grab a copy. Find out why over 50 million Americans believe our world will end, within our lifetime.

You may just surprise yourself and end up agreeing with them, then again, you may think that the world will become what we believe it will become, as it is our collective belief en masse, which sees us as the co~creators of our own future as a species?

Either way, you decide.

The Mayan Code :
Time Acceleration and
Awakening the World Mind
by Barbara Hand Clow

Genre : Mayan studies
ISBN 1~59143~070~4
Cost : About $35 depending where you go.

This is a gem for all 2012 enthusiasts who, like me cannot get their hands on enough information about this amazing time and the coming phenomena, which appears to only come around (quite literally) about every 25,600 years or so. The magical time when t the earth and our little solar system passes through the dead centre of the Milky Way. Yep that*s it, dead centre. Right through the middle of it, from the going to sleep phase of 26,000 years to the awakening one.

Of course there are as many theories as to what that will mean to us here on little ole Earth as there were about Y2K. . and about as much pandemonium as the apocalyptic fans embed their ideals of Armageddon with graphic geophysical mayhem of floods, earthquakes, fire and brimstone, falling stars and God knows what. There is no doubt perhaps that geophysical, the earth will suffer a few consequences as gravity alters in the middle of the Galaxy.

Some believe that this means we will stop spinning in the middle of it (dead centre somewhere between November 2011 to February 2013), and then start spinning the other way when when move out the other side. That means the rotation of polarity will alternate to its opposite rotation/pole causing it to shift direction? Of course that would also mean that the sun would rise in the west and set in the east. Meanwhile whilst we are at a standstill, it means three days of one side of the earth turned to the sun, set for Shishkebab brown, and the other side to, Hell frozen over.

There are so many lovely theories . . and as I said, many of them rather dystopic for mankind, but I am a firm believer in that old saying that the truth will set you free . . and finding out more about 2012 from any perspective is, in my view, all a part of that belief, as I am a member of that humanity currently living on earth and not of the feathered Ostrich variety of creature.

The thing is, that this book is neither dystopic nor predictory, but an absolute feast of fascinating details, the truths of which are without doubt mind altering in their ability to shift your consciousness, shaking loose any narrow-mindedness you may have been harbouring on 2012 .. even amongst the Maya themselves as 2012 does not mark the END OF TIME, but the MID POINT, or a pivotal turning point int he rather large cycle of the 25,600 year rotation the earth makes through the Milky Way itself. This book will not leave you ignorant on either subject.

Very well written by acclaimed international author, Cherokee record keeper and Mayan Elder, Barbara Hand Clow, The Mayan Code takes you on a journey from pre dawn to post 2012, and beyond to the golden age to come. It does so with deep insight and exploration of how, as we approach the end of one Mayan Calendar (and the middle point of another), time and consciousness are accelerating, giving us a new understanding of the universe. Using Carl Johan Calleman*s scientific research, against the back drop of the spiritual ideas and knowledge of other Mayan Calendar elders and scholars. Barbara examines 16.4 billion years of evolutionary cycles to decode the creative and larger cyclic patterns of the earth and its link to the World mind; and our connection as the dominating conscious sentient species upon it. . .( . .wheels within wheels like a swiss watch). .

An enthralling journey of time, space and reality as we enter the final period between 1999 and 2011 when war and territoriality, resource management and separation from nature reach their peaks as a part of daily events that must all be processed in just a few short years. Some 2012 authors and specialists say it starts this year in November when the Pope offends Iran and the 900 day war breaks loose, others that the monetary system falls completely by the end of 2010 : all evidences reflected in Barbara*s narrative and visual diagrams of the tightening spiral of time as it speeds up, lunging our earth and its solar system towards the black starless galactic centre of our own Milky way, leaving the one question unanswered . . are we prepared for the critical leap in human evolution this will trigger in our species, both mentally and physically?

Read this intriguing book and see for yourself, at least you will understand the truth of what is going on when the mainstream media hype begins its big campaign to the contrary.

eat, pray, love

Eat, Pray, Love :

One Woman*s search for everything.

By Elizabeth Gilbert

Bloomsbury Publishing : 2006

ISBN : 978 0 7475 8566 4

About $25 (depending where you go).

What can I say about this book that hasn*t been said by word of mouth already? And especially by Oprah, who picked up and was again instrumental in rocketing another enthralling story to the world stage and super success. I don*t watch Oprah very often as I tend not to put the TV on anymore and so I didn*t find out about it that way, more my own usual way. Another book that leaped off the shelf at me, this time at the airport bookshop, simply stating as it did; *pick me, read me!* So I did. The truth is, that Oprah was probably right this time, because eat, pray, love REALLY is ALL THAT and more, and exactly what girlfriends are (or should be) giving to each other (just as Julia Roberts said on the cover).

This book was my initian into the world of Gilbert and I found her warm, self-depreciating style quickly filled me with hope and forgiveness for the frailty and sad position of my own feminine human condition. I found her incandescent talent inspiring and having travelled a fair bit myself during the same period of my life, related personally to an alarming percentage of her emotions, feelings and impressions with both clarity and fondness.

Having come from Europe, lived in India and spent time with meditating Guru*s and wise/medicine Shamen (is that the plural?) since, gave me an extra dimensional portal into her disclosures, not that you couldn*t get all those epiphanies right at home in your back garden too mind, but somehow more enjoyable for those like me who have allowed themselves the sheer pleasure of being swayed to embrace other cultures. The fact is, that traveller or not, if you are a female and haven*t read this wonderfully wise and funny tale, you are missing perhaps one of the best laughs of your lifetime . . . and will probably want to travel after reading it anyway!

For me personally, eat, pray, love went beyond being what a good romantic chic flick and tub of chocolate ice cream can do for you, into the realms of a spiritual supernova chookbook, plunging you deeply into the often insane and illogical cauldron of swirling female emotions that only a woman on a spiritual mission would truly understand and be able to find funny. For Elizabeth (as with many of us) it began to unravel during that special time that consumes all women everywhere, when the biological body clock goes off and those BIG decisions of * to bear, or not to bear children* emerges.

Elizabeth is in her thirties, settled in a large house with a husband who wants ot start a family. But she doesn*t want any of it. A bitter divorce and a rebound fling later, Elizabeth emerges battered yet determined to find what she*s been missing.

So she begins her quest around the world for nine months to find the truth of life, the universe and everything . . .

In Rome, she indulges herself and gains nearly two stone. In India, she finds enlightenment through scrubbing temple floors and meditation. Finally, in Bali, a toothless medicine man reveals a new path to peace, leaving her ready to love again.

Here*s what the Guardian said:

Utterly of the moment: it manages, effortlessly, to be both spiritual and sexy, cute and confessional, all in the same tumultuous breath!

That is no understatement and if you haven*t caught up to this one yet, I suggest you make a date and grab a cuppa on the next rainy day that comes your way. It really is brilliant, hilarious and an effortless page turner, certainly one worth taking a day off work for and a story that I never wanted to end.

As the New York Times said;

Fuelled by a mix of intelligence, wit and colloquial exuberance that is close to irresistible.

As a writer myself, I found Elizabeth Gilberts enthusiasm infectious, and her detail of the customs of the cultures in which she journeyed fascinating.

A must read and five stars from me.

The Book of Stones

The Book of Stones

By Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian
With contributions by Hazel Raven

Heaven & Earth Publishing, Berkley California.

About $50.00 depending where you go.

Medicine Crow, a Native American friend of mine who used to live in Australia, used to call crystals, *the rock people* and he knew them all so intimately. As a novice apprentice of such things at the time, no need to add how much I enjoyed his workshops and introduction to this *species* and their innate personalities and ability to balance, heal and stimulate the human body.

That was a few years ago now and I have crossed many fields of endeavor, acquainting myself further with the magic of this mineral kingdom; walking roads of both wisdom and folly in my pursuit of understanding the *rock people* and their energetic language, a little better, and as with all seekers, I have learned many wondrous things.

Of course as in all esoteric knowledge, one book is never enough and it usually takes about half a dozen before you are able to start to tie up the loose ends left waving by each author along the way. No one person has all the knowledge, perhaps the most fascinating aspect of mystical knowledge itself. However, every once in a while, fate throws you a curve ball and if you manage to catch it, the rewards can be staggering.

Such was my experience when I followed my hounds of heaven (my hunches) to encounter my sixth crystal reference book : The Book of Stones.

Having waded through the Crystal Bible, Melodies : Love is in the Earth (another must for those serious about Crystals), and the book of Gem Lore amongst others, The Book of Stones awaited this novice as a means to transcend the mundane, and help her soar to the next level of hidden understanding.

What I liked most about The Book of Stones when I first held it, was that it was written by a man and a woman, offering the balanced Yin/Yang insight and intellect of both to the playing field. So lacking in most things practical in both Western, or Eastern. And, I was not disappointed because in a rare mix of brilliant clarity and ancient wisdom they weave their magic to bring descriptions that are as much an intimate conversation between the Wisdom of the Stones themselves, as it is the shared deep soul wisdom of the two authors.

This unique combination opened a new and unique world to me, elevating my spiritual knowledge of crystals into the higher form of subtle understanding I was seeking; encompassing as it does, the spiritual, emotional, and physical fields of the reality, and how each is transformed and affected by the vibration of the crystal who encounters it.

Robert brings solid, grounded linear time information on the mineral*s scientific properties, history, geography and lore, revealing much about the families and tribes of these rock entities, whilst Naisha shows us how in their wish to serve, they stimulate and heal our bodies upon contact to our four levels of existence. Just as a lettuce lives to offer itself up as nourishing biochemistry, so too the crystal with its energetic vibration, realigning and stimulating the Chakras and electromagnetic fields of our bodies, to help bring peace, balance and tranquility back to the individual.

It may be no accident they are here too, and each carries its own affirmation to further change the energy fields of our auras, many here to protect us energetically.

Each description is lovingly accompanied by a beautiful picture to help you identify the many varieties and species of *Rock People* who share our planet with us. Amongst the most fascinating, those who are themselves still thought to be in a state of evolution.. with helpful and timely warnings posted throughout the book on which to wear, and not wear, for long periods of time.

No doubts about it, this pictorial metaphysical encyclopedia is what crystal lovers, healers and reference library collectors from all over the world, were waiting for to tie up their own loose ends.

The Serpent of Light

The Movement of the Earth's Kundalini and the Rise of the Female Light,

1949-2013

by Drunvalo Melchizedek

ISBN : 978-1-57863-401-9

Part travel adventure, part spiritual instruction, Drunvalo Melchizedeks new book is a firsthand account of a once-in-a-13,000-years process, when Mother Earths Kundalini energy emerges from the planets core and moves like a snake to its new home, to coincide with the movement of the astral bodies through the heavens.

Once at home in ancient Lumeria, the Earths Kundalini moved to Atlantis, then to the Himalayas (to the White Pyramid of Tibet). With every relocation, it has changed our idea of what spiritual means. And gender. And heart. This time, with much difficulty, the Serpent of Light has moved to the Andes Mountain (for the 2012 Ascension of consciousness and as a part of the new global spiritual centre to come).

In Serpent of Light, Drunvalo tells stories of his thirty-five years spent in service to Mother Earth. Travel with him around the world as he follows his guidance and his own inner growing knowledge. His story is a living string of ceremonies to help heal hearts, align energies, right ancient imbalances; in short, to increase our awareness of the indivisibility of life in the universe.

Changes of this magnitude do not happen overnight; and the work that goes into bringing them about is a labour of love; love for all life, everywhere a job usually reserved for the indigenous peoples of the earth. In his efforts to ease the planet through the Great Shift of the Ages, Drunvalo's labours have taken him all over the world to many such cultures. These magical mystery tours involved working on the inner planes, in specific locations, at specific times, to bring about outer changes that are vital to the Earth's activation process, and to all of us as we approach the end of the Mayan Calendar.

When you open The Serpent of Light, be prepared to enter a realm where miraculous events are the order of the day through absolute faith. As you read along your awareness of the miraculous will be heightened by the realization that all of these synchronicities actually happened in real time. Drunvalo's description of each journey reads like a cross between Don Juan, The Lord of the Rings, and an Indiana Jones adventure story; the only difference is, The Serpent of Light isn't a fantasy tale; every word in this book is true and happened, even if you personally do decide to treat it like a fantasy.

The people who travelled with Drunvalo, and witnessed these miracles, will be reminded of their contribution to this work, and of things that happened along the way that they may have forgotten about, or were not even aware of at the time. Fortunately, Drunvalo wrote this book, not just for the ones who were there, or for those who follow his teachings, but for everyone; anyone who reads The Serpent of Light will be stirred to the core by wonders that make it clear that there is much more to this reality than meets the eye; and by the realization that something deep is reawakening in the heart of the Great Mother. That same force is alive inside each one of us now. As our hearts open to embrace it, our beautiful planet will move out of the darkness, into the Age of Light.

Anyone who dreams of the possibility of a new and better world will rejoice when they read this book; don't miss The Serpent of Light ; it is Drunvalo at his best!
